The Writer

Venturing on the road where I live,  in the former Baca Land Grant in the San Luis Valley.

I was born on the Wyoming-Montana border, grew up in Denver, worked as a UPI wire service journalist in Helena, Salt Lake City, Denver, Topeka and Santa Fe, where I settled, helped raise two daughters and became a staff writer for the AP, then Santa Fe bureau chief for the Albuquerque Journal and finally its Santa Fe columnist. I studied at CU-Boulder (BA), Stanford (journalist-Knight fellowship), and St. John’s College of Santa Fe (MA in Eastern classics).

I have traveled in Asia, Europe, South America and most of the United States, often with my dear friend and partner Patricia. I now live in the San Luis Valley of Colorado on the eastern slope of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. My primary residence for most my adult career has been within 15 miles of the upper Rio Grande.
